Goodnight Clinch, Goodnight and Goodbye

Tonight coming back from a play I was hit by a car. I was wearing a helmet and had both my lights on (This is a rare occurrence.) I am physically fine, no bumps and just a small bruise on my chest from where I made impact with the hood of the vehicle. My bike is also fine, a slightly untrue back wheel but no structural damage. The dirver was scared and nervous but fine, she had been looking for an address and hadn’t seen me (wildly blinking) in front of her.

However, I am deeply saddened to say that not everyone survived the accident. Clinch, my newly adopted lemur, was killed when my bag was run over by the car’s wheels.

No pictures exist of Clinch and me, we were waiting until we had conquered some mountain, or pedaled through some forest. Now I’ve learned that it is best not to wait. Sometimes our dreams never come. But Clinch thought he was invincible, and I guess I believed he was too. Just a few days ago he jumped off my back (where he liked to cling) as we rode over a bridge together. He fell off the bridge and into a small canyon, just as calm and serene as if he were taking a nap. I hiked down as fast as I could and with some effort pulled his tiny little dusty frame out of the ravine. That night nursed him back to health with a nice warm bath and a half glass of Redbreast.

Sadly there is no nice warm bath that can reverse nor any amount of whiskey that will ever let me forget, the garish events of tonight. I will miss you Clinch, I barely knew you at all. I’m sorry my friend.
